The London 2012 Summer Olympics opened on 27th of July. London had won the right to host the Olympic Games, beating Paris, considered the favourite city by less than a handful of votes. It was the first time that the International Olympic Committee had given the Games to any city three times. The challenge – the building of the London Olympic Park, would involve major regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley in the Stratford area of east London.
I first visited the site in July 2006, and at the start of this documentation there were no access restrictions, local businesses carried on, many fought the planners and then lost. In July 2007 a blue wooden surrounding wall was erected, security was put in place; entry to the 2012 London Olympics Park, the site of the Games was no longer possible.
